01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

At Teppanyaki Note, teppanyaki is the thread running through a course that also draws on dishes from around the world. One course begins with seven starters, including aubergine namul, chicken kebab and seared yellowtail, before moving on to grilled sesame tofu, tonpeiyaki, steak and okonomiyaki. One diner also recalled a dish of grilled sesame tofu topped with sea urchin and crab, a reminder of how cooking an ingredient on the teppan can give it a different character.

For a meal that unfolds course by course, the standard course is one option. It includes seven chef-recommended starters, seafood, A5-rank female Wagyu steak, okonomiyaki and the dessert of the day, across 13 dishes for 6,490 yen. The Heritage Course, available to parties of 2 or more and in limited quantities, is another possibility; it comprises 13 dishes and costs 8,690 yen. If you prefer to order à la carte, choices include pork okonomiyaki (990 yen) and pork-and-squid okonomiyaki (1,320 yen), as well as the vegetable, mochi and cheese okonomiyaki, which is not wrapped in meat (1,760 yen). Yakisoba comes with a choice of flavours: sauce (1,100 yen), spicy thick sauce (1,210 yen) or beef tendon curry (1,650 yen).

Wine and sparkling wine are also on the menu, offering options to pair with a course as it progresses from starters to meat. There are counter seats as well as private rooms; booking ahead seems sensible for an unhurried evening course meal.
